MNEMOSYNE A MUSEUM THAT GUIDES THE TOURIST:
RESPONDING TO THE INTERESTS OF THE VISITOR TO APPRECIATE CULTURAL HERITAGE

T

he system MNEMOSYNE is a highly innovative system that provides in-depth information customized based on the interest shown to the visitor. It uses cameras and a vision software detects the visitor inside the hall during the visit, including which of the exhibits have attracted more and then extrapolating his profile of interest.

At the exit of the hall, next to an interactive table, visitors are re-identified. The user will recieve in-depth information on the works that have most affected him and the links with other works in the museum or in the city of Florence.

The first installation in a museum context of a real vision system to offer visitors personalized information on their individual interests.

It is completely non-intrusive: unlike the case of the common use of mobile devices, the visitor is not required to wear or to do any action in front of works of interest.

T

he the system operates totally respectful of the privacy of the visitor. The cameras and the vision system can not find information on the facial features of the individual but only information on the appearance of the figure such as color and texture of the clothes. The appearance of the visitor is encoded into a string of numbers that capture the most distinctive elements.

The numerical descriptors are then compared with each other to carry out the re-identification of the visitor and ultimately phased out at the end of the path. Images taken by the cameras are not recorded.

The system will be installed on a trial basis at the Bargello Museum until June 2015.
